Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has concluded that no criminal charges will be laid against two RCMP officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man in Deschambault Lake in August 2025.
According to SIRT, officers were investigating reports of a gunshot in the community when they encountered a group of people near the lakeshore.
During the incident, investigators found the man was armed and did not comply with repeated commands from police.
SIRT determined the officers believed there was an immediate threat to their safety and responded with force.
Following a review of witness statements, physical evidence and other investigative materials, SIRT concluded the officers’ actions were justified under the Criminal Code’s self-defence provisions.
As a result, SIRT found no reasonable grounds to believe either officer committed a criminal offence and no charges will be laid.
The case has been closed.
