A public inquest into the death of 23-year-old Tatiana Custer will be held in Prince Albert from Dec. 7 to 11, 2026.

The inquest is scheduled to take place at the Coronet Hotel, with proceedings beginning at 10 a.m. on the first day.

Start times for the remaining days will be determined by the presiding coroner.

Custer went into medical distress while an inmate at Pine Grove Provincial Correctional Centre on Jan. 3, 2024.

Staff began life-saving efforts and Emergency Medical Services transported her to Victoria Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Under Saskatchewan’s Coroners Act, 1999, an inquest is required when a person dies while in custody unless the death is determined to have been entirely due to natural causes and not preventable.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service says the purpose of the inquest is to determine who died, when and where the death occurred, and the medical cause and manner of death.

A coroner’s jury may also make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.

Coroner Aaron Fox, K.C., will preside over the proceedings.
