Tributes are pouring in following the passing of Stoney Knoll First Nation Chief Sylvia Weenie. 

The City of North Battleford lowered its flags to half-mast on Thursday to honour Chief Weenie’s memory and her years of dedicated leadership in the Battlefords area. 

“Chief Weenie leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to her community,” the city said in a statement. “Her years of service touched many lives and will not be forgotten.” 

The Battlefords Agency Tribal Council (BATC) also expressed deep sadness over her passing, offering condolences to her family, loved ones, and the people of Stoney Knoll First Nation. 

“May her spirit be at peace, and may her life and leadership continue to inspire those who follow,” the tribal council stated. 

Chief Weenie was known throughout the region as an advocate for her First Nation, contributing to regional health, economic development, and community reconciliation efforts. 

Funeral arrangements and memorial details have not yet been announced.
