The Moosomin Visual Arts Centre hosted Nisto from Sept. 1 to 23, a travelling visual arts exhibition presented through the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils’ Arts on the Move program.
Curated by Melanie Monique Rose, Nisto takes its name from the Cree word for “three.” The exhibition brought together the work of three Indigenous artists, Cristian Barreno (Maya K’iche’), Maria Rose Sikyea (Yellowknives Dene) and Emma Noyes (Sinixt).
Through a variety of works, the three artists explored their relationships with culture, ancestry, identity, land, water and their respective homelands. The exhibition also drew on the significance of three strands forming a braid and teachings surrounding the unity of mind, body and spirit.
The travelling exhibition was presented locally by the Moosomin Visual Arts Centre and the Moosomin and District Arts Council.
