Community safety officials and RCMP are investigating reports of possible gunfire in Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation.
In a public notice issued Tuesday evening on Facebook, the Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation Community Safety Officer Detachment and the Nation’s Emergency Management team said they are working closely with RCMP following reports of possible gunfire in the community, including a report from an individual who said they were shot at.
Officials said the information received remains unconfirmed and conflicting, and no suspect had been identified as of Tuesday night.
As a precaution, residents were urged to remain indoors when possible, lock their doors, windows and vehicles, keep children and pets close, and avoid approaching suspicious individuals or attempting to investigate on their own.
Community members are asked to call 911 immediately if they see or hear anything suspicious.
Residents can expect an increased presence of RCMP officers, Community Safety Officers and security personnel as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rosthern RCMP Detachment at 306-232-6400 or the Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation CSO Detachment at 306-467-2227.
Officials are also asking the public to avoid sharing unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.
