Leadership at Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation says a threat to community safety has been resolved after a suspicious device was discovered at Dodgies Convenience Store.
In a statement released Wednesday, Chief Edwin Ananas said RCMP safely detonated the device after it was reported Tuesday night. While the device contained no functional wiring and could not explode, authorities advised it still posed a risk of injury and property damage.

Chief Ananas thanked the Cree Nation’s Emergency Management department and the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit for their response.
He noted the investigation remains ongoing, with surveillance footage being reviewed and DNA and fingerprint evidence recovered from the device.
Leadership described the incident as a serious threat to the safety of the Nation and said those responsible will be held accountable if identified.
They say all necessary precautions were taken to protect public safety and no injuries were reported.
