Wadin Bay has received a $40,000 grant from the Government of Saskatchewan in recognition of the community’s wildfire prevention and resiliency efforts.
The funding, announced in June 2026 and presented during a visit by Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency Minister Michael Weger on Monday, supports investments Wadin Bay has already made to strengthen wildfire preparedness.
Community leaders say those proactive measures helped protect Wadin Bay during the 2025 PISEW wildfire.
“I have seen firsthand the dedication and leadership efforts made by this community in the face of devastating wildfires,” Weger said. “I am proud to provide this grant to a community that is leading the way in protecting its residents.”
The grant is part of the province’s response to recommendations from an independent review of Saskatchewan’s 2025 wildfire response.
The review highlighted the importance of strengthening fuel management programs and supporting communities that take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk.
Wadin Bay incorporated FireSmart principles into their community which helped prevent the PISEW wildfire from spreading in to the community in 2025.
