Three people have been charged following a series of armed robberies that began in Little Red River and ended with a police pursuit and arrests near the same community.
Prince Albert RCMP say the investigation began on Aug. 2 after two people armed with firearms allegedly threatened and assaulted a resident at a home in Little Red River before stealing the victim’s SUV and personal belongings. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The following day, La Ronge RCMP received a report that three armed suspects assaulted two people and stole their truck on Highway 2 south of La Ronge. Investigators determined the suspects had been travelling in the SUV stolen the previous day before abandoning it and fleeing in the truck.
Police later located the stolen truck near Northside and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled south on Highway 2. RCMP deployed a tire deflation device in Little Red River, bringing the pursuit to an end. Two women were arrested inside the truck, while a man who fled on foot was taken into custody a short time later.
As a result of the investigation, 26-year-old Brandon Corrigal of Sturgeon Lake First Nation, 22-year-old Acotia Bradfield of La Ronge, and 27-year-old Kara Halkett of Little Red River are facing numerous charges. These included robbery with an offensive weapon, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, assault with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime. Corrigal also faces several additional charges related to the police pursuit, impaired driving and breaching court orders.
All three were scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Aug. 5.
