A routine RCMP patrol aimed at enforcing Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation’s emergency safety measures has resulted in the seizure of weapons, drugs and cash from a home in Pelican Narrows.

Police say officers were conducting compliance patrols on the evening of July 4 when they attended a residence on Linklater Street. After being granted permission to enter, officers observed prohibited firearms, ammunition and a bag containing a white powder.

A woman was arrested at the scene without incident before RCMP obtained a warrant to search the home.

Investigators then seized a sawed-off shotgun, several imitation firearms, ammunition, numerous bladed weapons including machetes, a tactical axe and knives, along with 664 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, 30 cellphones, a large quantity of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, 30-year-old Kerry McCallum of Pelican Narrows is facing numerous charges, including possession of prohibited firearms, unsafe firearm storage, possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, and multiple drug trafficking offences.

Police have also charged McCallum with possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, fentanyl and crack cocaine, production of crystal methamphetamine, and possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution.

McCallum made her first court appearance by CCTV in Pelican Narrows Provincial Court on July 6.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The seizure comes as Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation continues enforcing emergency safety measures introduced earlier this year following a series of violent incidents in the community.

RCMP say officers have increased patrols as part of those public safety efforts.
