On July 1st, the provincial government introduced changes to childcare funding.
The Saskatchewan NDP have launched a new campaign with the support of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Saskatchewan, the provinces largest union representing over 31,000 frontline workers in child care, health and education.
The new website launched on June 6th will offer Saskatchewan residents a way to voice their concerns and send messages directly to their Saskatchewan party MLA, to the Minister of Child Care Everett Hindley and to Premier Scott Moe.
“We’re here to keep aggressively advocating for affordable child care in our province,” said MLA Joan Pratchler, the Early Learning and Child Care Shadow Minister.
Pratchler said there is concern over the increased costs to families that some child care operators are implementing to maintain sustainability.
CUPE Saskatchewan stands firm against child care cuts.
Recent changes have also impacted funding for part-time and casual child care spaces.
“Spaces that people relied on, such as those that work shifts, like the folks on the frontlines in our healthcare system,” said Kent Peterson, CUPE Saskatchewan President. “Rest assured, Saskatchewan’s largest union is in this fight for the long haul.”
