The Saskatchewan government is increasing financial assistance and expanding eligibility under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program.
The maximum available to individuals will rise from 240-thousand dollars to 500-thousand dollars, while the limit for small businesses will increase from 500-thousand dollars to three-million dollars.
Compensation will also be based on standard replacement value rather than the depreciated value of damaged property.
The updated regulations apply retroactively to April 1st, allowing people affected by flooding since May to have their claims assessed under the new framework.
Community Safety Minister Michael Weger says the changes are intended to reduce the burden on residents and communities during what can be a long recovery process.
Municipalities will also be able to lower their deductibles by meeting emergency preparedness criteria, while eligible claimants may receive additional assistance worth up to 25 per cent of a claim for projects that reduce future disaster risks.
The program covers uninsurable essential losses, cleanup, repairs and temporary relocation for residents, businesses, agricultural operations, First Nations, non-profit organizations and communities.
