A Southend man is facing multiple charges following a firearm incident on Tate Island, located about 100 kilometres north of Southend on Reindeer Lake.

Southend RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge on July 19 at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Police say a group of individuals was on the island when one man allegedly uttered threats to harm others and discharged a firearm. No one was physically injured.

With assistance from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, RCMP officers were transported to Tate Island by helicopter, where they located and arrested the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, 49-year-old Travis Bird of Southend has been charged with discharge of a firearm with intent, possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.

Bird appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on July 20. The charges have not been proven in court.
