The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says 17 local states of emergency are now in effect across the province as flooding continues to impact communities in eastern and central Saskatchewan.

During Monday’s provincial update, the SPSA confirmed three new local emergency declarations have been issued since last week, bringing the provincial total to 17.

Officials expect that number to fluctuate in the coming days as some declarations expire or are renewed.

Communities currently under local states of emergency include Keeseekoose First Nation, the RM of Cote, the RMs of Insinger, Livingston, Meadow Lake, Preeceville, Sliding Hills, Wolverine and Tecumseh, the towns of Kamsack, Bredenbury and Norquay, the villages of Sheho, Pelly, Togo and Rhein, as well as the Resort Village of Leslie Beach.

The agency says it remains in regular contact with affected municipalities and First Nations, providing pumps, hoses, sandbags and other emergency resources where needed.

At Cote First Nation, nine priority-one residents remain evacuated due to flooding. The SPSA says those community members continue to be supported by the First Nation while officials monitor conditions.

The flooding update came as the SPSA also reported 64 active wildfires across Saskatchewan, including several major fires in the province’s north.

6 of these fires are considered not contained.
