A men’s golf team from Keeseekoose First Nation won the gold at the 2026 First Nations Cup.
The event was hosted by George Gordon First Nation and took place at the Moon Lake Golf & Country Club in Saskatoon June 26 to July 4. Keeseekoose topped out the tournament, which had 48 teams from different First Nations.
This is the second time Keeseekoose won the men’s division, winning it back in 2024. Brennen Watson was the team MVP. Jason Klemenz and Ashley Straightnose won their respective flights. Jon Straightnose and Brennen Watson won the two man scramble for the B division.
Tristan Keshane, a team member, said it was “nice being around all the guys. We’re a pretty tight-knit group. It’s good just to hang out with the guys and forget about all the other stuff.”
“We wouldn’t be able to go to this tournament without the support we get from our community. They helped us with fundraising and sponsoring,” said Keshane. “They helped us get up there. It’s nice to have support while you’re going somewhere representing your community.”
He hopes the team can inspire young golfers from Keeseekoose to keep practicing golf, and in the future join the team themselves when they’re older.
The conditions on the course were favourable, noted Keshane. “The greens were rolling pretty good. We got some really good weather. It was windy, but that’s part of the game.”
The team was playing in the memory of William Keshane, a leader in the community who was active in encouraging the growth of golf and hockey in Keesekoose.
