Production at Cameco’s Cigar Lake uranium mine has been temporarily suspended due to operational issues at Orano’s McClean Lake mill, where the mine’s ore is processed.

The shutdown follows problems with the mill’s sulfuric acid plant, which is undergoing repairs.

Orano is also exploring alternative acid supplies while it waits for replacement parts.

Cameco says mining operations at Cigar Lake have been paused because the site has limited ore storage capacity until milling resumes.

The company expects the McClean Lake mill to restart in approximately two weeks, allowing mining at Cigar Lake to resume.

At this time, Cameco says it does not expect the interruption to affect its 2026 production outlook, although longer-than-expected repairs could impact production.
