Update: Organizers have announced that due to weather, the July 1 celebrations at Western Development Museum will be postponed. A rescheduled date will be announced at a later time.

Original report: YORKTON — The Western Development Museum is preparing to welcome visitors for a Canada Day celebration featuring live entertainment, cultural performances and family activities on July 1.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m., with free admission to the museum grounds. Regular admission rates will apply for access to the museum galleries.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 12:30 p.m., followed by an afternoon of performances showcasing a variety of cultures and community groups.

Featured entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. with performances by the Bayanihan Filipino Band and Dance Troupe. Other performers scheduled throughout the afternoon include Charles Samole and Arielle Samonte, Karin Roulston, the YTC Drum Group and Dancers, Songbird, the NrityaSabha School of Performing Arts, the Jamaican Parkland Association and Yorkton Martial Arts.

The entertainment lineup will conclude with a Viking fight demonstration by Lokis Brood.

In addition to the stage performances, visitors will have access to a range of activities and exhibits throughout the grounds. Plans include a local art display, an international flag exhibit, a treasure hunt, a selfie station and Canada-themed souvenirs. Tree seedlings will also be available while supplies last.

Families can take part in traditional games, visit novelty booths and enjoy a bounce castle. Wagon rides, minibus tours and rides aboard a restored fire truck are also planned.

The event will feature an antique automobile display, a Viking village and a teepee display presented by the Yorkton Tribal Council.

A food concession will open at noon, and complimentary Canada Day cake will be available while supplies last.
