Health and emergency officials are warning of a heightened risk of overdose in Regina after 100 overdoses were reported in the first 10 days of June.
According to the Regina Overdose Outreach Team and Regina Fire and Protective Services, 100 overdoses were recorded between June 1 and June 10, 2026. The highest numbers were reported on June 5, with 22 overdoses, and June 7, with 17.
Officials say at least two suspected overdose-related deaths occurred during the reporting period, indicating an increased risk of overdose and death from drugs circulating in the Regina area.
The substance or substances involved have not been identified. In one reported case, the product appeared pink in colour, and authorities say it may have been sold as methamphetamine. The drugs may contain unknown opioids, benzodiazepines, or methamphetamine.
Naloxone has been effective in many overdose responses. However, officials note that naloxone only reverses the effects of opioids and will not counteract substances such as benzodiazepines. Multiple doses of naloxone may be required in some cases.
Residents are encouraged to carry naloxone, avoid using substances alone, and call 911 immediately if an overdose is suspected.
The overdose alert remains in effect until June 17, 2026.
