From a news release, two males and a female have been charged after a firearm was discharged at a male walking his dog.

On June 26, 2026 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge on 8th Avenue North in North Battleford, SK.

Investigation determined an adult male was walking his dog. A truck with multiple occupants inside approached the male. The occupants uttered threats and discharged a firearm, injuring the dog. The truck then fled from the area. The dog was declared deceased at the scene. The male did not report physical injuries to police.

Shortly after the incident, Battlefords RCMP located the suspect’s truck parked outside a residence on 110 Street in North Battleford. Three males exited the residence and were arrested without incident. A female fled from the residence on foot. She was arrested by Battlefords RCMP.

Battlefords RCMP, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, obtained a warrant and searched the residence. Officers located and seized two firearms.

As a result of continued investigation, 37-year-old Dennis Kennedy from North Battleford is charged with: possession of a firearm with tampered serial number, injuring or endangering other animals, careless use of a firearm, discharge firearm while being reckless, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, operation while prohibited, possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon with ammunition without a license/registration, and weapons possession contrary to order.

53-year-old Allan Desmeules from North Battleford is charged with: unsafe storage of firearms, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, and weapons possession contrary to order(x2).

39-year-old Tashina Whitstone from Red Pheasant Cree Nation is charged with: uttering threats to animals and resist/obstruct peace officer.

One of the males was later released from police custody without charge.
