Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit has laid a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of a man in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Sucker River.

Police say 24-year-old Andrew Douglas MacDonald of Lindsay, Ontario, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in relation to the death of 39-year-old Stephen McKenzie.

MacDonald was arrested on June 11 at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, Ontario, by members of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team. He was subsequently transported back to Saskatchewan.

The charge stems from an ongoing homicide investigation led by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit.

MacDonald is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on June 12, 2026.

RCMP have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding McKenzie’s death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
