An adult male is facing a manslaughter charge following a fatal altercation in Melfort over the weekend.
According to Saskatchewan RCMP, officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at an apartment on the 100 block of Broadway Avenue South around noon on May 2.
Initial investigation determined two adult men were involved in an altercation inside the apartment. During the incident, one of the men was stabbed.
The injured man was transported to hospital by EMS, where he later died from his injuries. He has been identified as 36-year-old Sam Stonestand of Melfort.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Homicide Investigation Unit took over the investigation. As a result, 43-year-old Tom Cook of Melfort has been charged with manslaughter in connection to Stonestand’s death.
Cook also faces three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on May 4 at 9:30 a.m.
