On May 11, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., RCMP in Prince Albert responded to a report of a potential threat directed at a school on Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

Officers immediately attended the scene as the school initiated its hold-and-secure protocol.

Police conducted a thorough search of the building and confirmed there was no indication of an imminent threat.

The school maintained hold-and-secure procedures for the remainder of May 11 and later cancelled classes on May 12 as a precaution.

RCMP investigators continued working to determine the origin of the reported threat and maintained communication with school and community leadership.

Police say the initial report originated outside of Canada after an individual came across threatening content aimed at the school on a social media platform.

On May 12, officers arrested a male teenager at a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. During the arrest, police seized a BB gun, a knife, and an axe from the home.

Investigators confirmed the youth was a student at the affected school.

As a result of continued investigation, the male teenager is charged with three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and  uttering threats.

We are unable to identify the male teenager as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He has appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court and was remanded into custody until his next scheduled appearance on May 20 (Information #Y403116).
