Historic flooding along the Shell and Carrot rivers has triggered evacuations in northern Saskatchewan, prompting the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) to activate its Emergency Operations Centre.
Members from Red Earth Cree Nation and Shoal Lake Cree Nation, including Elders and vulnerable residents, were evacuated earlier this week.
PAGC is working alongside Saskatchewan First Nations Emergency Management, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, and the Canadian Red Cross to coordinate support.
Officials say the Carrot River has reached record-breaking levels, surpassing previous highs set in 1972.
Water levels have risen nearly three metres since late April, with peak flows still expected in the coming days.
Leaders say safety remains the top priority as communities brace for continued high water.
Residents are being asked to stay clear of flooded areas and follow instructions from local leadership and emergency crews.
