The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan has announced a key leadership change within its public service, as Chief Executive Officer Richard Quintal prepares to step down from his position.
President Glen McCallum made the announcement May 4, 2026 on a live stream from their website.
“We hear you. A strong Métis government does not happen overnight. The constitutional reform process has been decades long and is focused on the voice of the people, our citizens,” said MN-S President McCallum.
“This work is ongoing. Our government, with the support of our CEO and Métis public service, our public service has worked hard to get us to where we are today. We don’t want to forget all that we have accomplished together.”
Quintal will officially transition out of his position on May 15, 2026.
During his term, President McCallum said that Quintal helped guide the organization through a period of significant growth, including major governance milestones and helped expand programming for Métis citizens.
Officials acknowledged Quintal’s contributions, noting his leadership and dedication to strengthening the government and public service.
To ensure continuity, Chief Operating Officer Matt Vermette has been appointed Acting CEO, effective May 15th. Leadership says the appointment will help maintain stability in program delivery and preserve relationships with partners while a search for a permanent CEO is conducted.
The transition comes as the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan continues its work toward strengthening governance and advancing self-government negotiations.
Officials say further updates on the CEO position will be provided in the coming months.
