The Lac La Ronge Indian Band says it is actively working to address stray and roaming dog concerns across its communities.

Between January and early April 2026, Animal Control officers apprehended and re-homed 103 dogs, following 175 in 2025.

The Band’s Animal Care and Control Bylaw, enacted in May 2024, is being enforced as officers work daily to manage the issue.

However, officials say uncontrolled breeding remains the primary cause, often leading to packs of roaming dogs and increased safety risks.

Free spay and neuter clinics are available, but participation remains a challenge.

The Band is exploring solutions, including increasing staffing, expanding facilities, and partnering with nearby communities.

Officials stress that lasting change depends on responsible pet ownership.

Residents are urged to spay or neuter pets, keep them under control, and limit the number of animals in their care.
