On May 27, 2026 at approximately 4:00 a.m., Broadview RCMP received a report that a woman was being confined by an armed male at a residence on Kahkewistahaw First Nation.

Broadview RCMP immediately responded and arrested an adult male at the residential property.

Investigation determined a male suspect assaulted and pointed a firearm at a female, refusing to let her leave the residence. A second male at the residential property was also threatened by the armed suspect, and his vehicle was damaged. It was reported to police that the firearm was never discharged. Neither victim reported physical injuries to police.

During a search of the residence, officers located and seized a handgun.

As a result of continued investigation, 44-year-old Anthony Kinistino from Ochapowace First Nation is charged with: assault; forcible confinement; mischief over $5000 – damage to motor vehicle; uttering threats against a person; pointing a firearm (x2); possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized.
