Officials have not released the name of a 25-year-old man killed in a bear encounter in northern Saskatchewan.

The incident was reported Friday at a remote airstrip near Points North Landing, west of Wollaston Lake.

The Ministry of Community Safety said the man died from his injuries and the bear was euthanized at the scene.

Officials have said the incident occurred roughly 78 kilometres northeast of Points North Landing, with the victim transported by helicopter back to the service hub.

Conservation Officers, the Wildlife Human Attack Response Team, RCMP and the Coroner’s Service are investigating.

The bear’s body is also being sent to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for a necropsy.
