The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has issued a drug alert for the Saskatoon area due to the Fire Department having reported a high number of overdose calls.

Currently there is and elevated risk of overdose for the Saskatoon and area.

The Saskatoon Fire Department has reported an that there was an elevated and increasing number of overdoses since April 1, 2026.

Many of which required naloxone to be administered.

From the time between April 1 and April 12, 2026, there have been over 150 overdose related calls.

And in multiple calls, there have been more than one individual involved.

No information can be provided on the substance(s) causing overdose. Multiple doses of naloxone may be required.

Naloxone will counter the effects of opioids, but not other substances like benzodiazepines.

Again the substance is unknown and may contain opioids or other unknown substances

The alert and advisory will remain in place until  April 20, 2026.
