On April 13, 2026, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) announced the the appointment of Jimmy Charles as the new Vice Chief of LLRIB.

This marks the first time in the Nation’s history that a formal second-in-command position has been established within its governance structure.

Jimmy Charles was recently re-elected as one of three Stanley Mission councilors but now holds a this newest position as Vice Chief of LLRIB.

The creation of the Vice Chief role reflects a significant step forward in strengthening leadership and ensuring more effective support for the Chief and Council. Serving directly under Tammy Cook-Searson, Vice Chief Charles will help guide decision-making, enhance coordination, and support the needs of communities across all six electoral sections.

“This role will help ensure we continue to meet the needs of our communities,” said Chief Tammy Cook-Searson. “Vice Chief Jimmy Charles will work closely with me and council members in supporting governance and community priorities.”

This historic development not only modernizes the Band’s leadership framework but also demonstrates a commitment to responsive, forward-looking governance for future generations.
