Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre has announced the recipients of the 2025 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal, recognizing 14 individuals for their outstanding contributions to communities across the province.
Among this year’s recipients is Linda Hryniuk of La Ronge, recognized for more than 30 years of volunteer service.
A retired accountant, Hryniuk has contributed her time and financial expertise to numerous organizations, including the La Ronge Senior Citizens Club, local food bank, church, Napatak Ramble music festival and curling club, often serving as treasurer.
She is known for managing budgets, supporting fundraising efforts and maintaining detailed financial records, while also volunteering at community events such as the Saskaloppet, music festivals, hockey games and senior bingos.
Hryniuk has also supported fundraising efforts for a new 80-bed long-term care facility in the community.
Her long-standing commitment, mentorship and willingness to step in wherever needed have made her a key contributor to the La Ronge community.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured for the recognition because there are many other volunteers in the community that are more deserving,” Hyrniuk told SaskToday.
“I am fortunate to be in a position to give back to the community where I live and do what needs to be done with other great volunteers. There are so many groups and organizations that depend on volunteers to keep it going.
“I grew up in southern Saskatchewan and volunteerism was a big part of the community’s make up. That’s just Saskatchewan as a whole is volunteerism.
“I feel like I can make a positive difference in my community and a few people’s lives, so I have been able to do that. You get a feel-good feeling when you volunteer.”
Recipients will be honoured April 21, during a ceremony at Government House as part of National Volunteer Week.
