Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) is looking to the public for help following a homicide in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Sucker River.

On March 4, 2026, at approximately 12:20 a.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of an injured person at a residence in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Sucker River.

Officers responded and located an injured man and transported the man to hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Stephen McKenzie, from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. His family has been notified and victim services made available to them.

Stephen’s death is determined as a homicide.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU continues to investigate and are actively working to identify and locate the suspect(s) involved.

Investigators are releasing Stephen’s name as they are asking anyone with information about his death to report it to La Ronge RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP.
