This past weekend’s Montreal Lake Fish Derby has come with allegations of cheating against one of the participants.
The Montreal Lake Cree Nation posted to social media after the event saying that an individual was alleged to have violated the derby rules and was asked to leave.
The Cree Nation says they have handed the matter over to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and the RCMP for an investigation.
“The First Nation is cooperating fully, as they investigate the matter,” read the statement.
The fish derby comes with nearly $250,000 in cash prizes for participants, which means allegations of fraud will be discussed in the investigation.
Montreal Lake leadership says there have been no known incidents of fraud in previous years.
“The Nation wishes to reassure the public that the integrity of the derby remains intact and that it continues to uphold a fair and transparent process,” the statement said.
The Cree Nation says if the allegations are proved true they would support the necessary consequences.
