Moose Jaw RCMP is warning the public about a phishing scam that involves emails that look as if they originate from the RCMP.

An individual received an email an it indicated that ‘unacceptable activity’ was detected on their network and that they were summoned before the RCMP.

In the email there is a PDF attached, which is signed.

The email includes the RCMP crest, but is NOT from a legitimate RCMP email address.

It has been determined the email is a scam.

Moose Jaw RCMP reminds individuals to take precautions against scams:

  • Don’t click on links or download attachments in unsolicited text messages or emails.
  • Never send your personal, credit card or banking details in response to unsolicited messages, and do not enter those details on any website if you are not certain the site is genuine.
  • Always take a moment to verify the source of messages received.
  • Red flags include misspellings or unusual email addresses.

If you receive an email you suspect to be a scam, report it to your local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
