A uranium project in northern Saskatchewan has officially received a license for operation from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

Over the past year, the proposed Wheeler River Project was the subject of public hearings.

The safety commission heard from Indigenous communities and other possibly impacted groups about the benefits and possible harms of the project.

Today, the safety commission announced they had issued a license to Denison Mines for the operation of the project.

The license is said to be valid for the next five years.
