On the morning of Friday, January 16, 2026, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Loon Lake RCMP received a call reporting hearing of a gunshot on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

Officers responded but they did not locate anyone injured.

They noticed a male walking in the community holding a firearm and he discarded the firearm when police approached.

The male was arrested without incident.

Officers seized a firearm, which had the barrel sawed off.

Ammunition, approximately 167 grams of methamphetamine, 67 grams of cocaine, trafficking paraphernalia and cash was also in the male’s belongings.

A 32-year-old male from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is now charged with: one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; one count, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; one count, unlicensed possession of a loaded prohibited weapon with ammunition, Section 95(1)(a), Criminal Code; one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code; and one count, unauthorized possession of a weapon, Section 91(1), Criminal Code.

The male, who was apprehended on January 16th, is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on January 19, 2026 (Information #90569845).
