The claims process for the Indian Hospitals settlement opened this week.
The federal government ran 33 of the facilities for Indigenous people between 1936 and 1981.
In Saskatchewan they were located in North Battleford and Fort Qu’Appelle.
Some former patients spent years in the segregated facilities, where they experienced abuse and unfair treatment.
The settlement will see Ottawa pay individual survivors between 10-thousand and 200-thousand dollars.
