On October 18, 2025, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Sandy Bay RCMP received a report of a fire at an abandoned house in Sandy Bay.
Officers immediately responded along with local fire services, who extinguished the fire.
No injuries were reported to police but the building was heavily damaged.
A male teenager was arrested later that morning with the assistance of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation security personnel.
As a result of continued investigation, the male teenager is charged with:
– one count, arson, Section 434, Criminal Code; and
– two counts, fail to comply with undertaking condition, Section 145(4)(a), Criminal Code.
We are unable to identify the male teenager as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, so are refraining from providing his name as well as his specific age.
He was remanded into custody to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court via CCTV on October 20, 2025.
Sandy Bay RCMP continue to investigate this incident, as well as other structure fires (three houses and one outbuilding) that have occurred in Sandy Bay in October.
It’s believed the fires may have been deliberately set.
The investigations include determining whether there is any potential link between the incidents.
