A Red River Cart is now displayed at Saskatoon City Hall to celebrate Metis heritage.

The cart was officially displayed at an event in the city Thursday morning.

City officials say the creation of the display is part of the city’s efforts to honour Indigenous culture and history in civic spaces.

“The display is more than art—it’s a step towards recognizing and uplifting Indigenous peoples and their history and experience in civic spaces. It tells the story that we are still here,” said Tenille Thomson, Manager of Community Development. “It sparks curiosity, educates the public and contributes to the diverse Canadian cultural mosaic.”

The Red River Cart is a widely recognized as a cultural emblem of Metis people.

The installation will be on display at Saskatoon city hall until October 13.
