The province’s Mental Health Capacity Building program is expanding to the northeast.

The government announced Tuesday morning that the Creighton School Division is the latest area to receive the program, which aims to provide supports to promote mental health and well-being for students.

The school division covers the communities of Creighton and Denare Beach.

“Not only is this program important to supporting mental health and students, but it also comes at a time where the families and students in this community have been greatly impacted by wildfires this past year,” said Education Minister Everett Hindley.

The Ministry of Education allocated $5.2 million of this year’s budget for mental health supports, with $4.6 million specifically allocated for the MHCB program.

The program has expanded to six school divisions in the province so far this year, including an expansion in Ile a la Crosse.

The government says the goal is to expand the program to all 27 school divisions in the province by 2028.
