A Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations vice-chief is speaking out against a statement from the organization earlier this week.
The FSIN is currently embroiled in a financial scandal following the release of a forensic audit that found $34 million in questionable spending over a five-year period.
However, Fourth Vice-Chief Craig McCallum released his own statement on Thursday in the form of an open letter to rights holders saying the findings of the audit cannot be dismissed or minimized.
In McCallum’s letter he says he cannot “in good conscience, stand behind the statement released by the other executive of the FSIN.”
McCallum says “denial and deflection” won’t restore trust and he wants the FSIN to uphold its fiduciary obligations.
