A firefighting team from a northern Saskatchewan First Nation recently had a strong showing at a national competition.
The Black Lake Denusline Nation Fire Crew finished fourth at the National First Nations Firefighter Competition in Calgary this past weekend.
Six members of the community competed in a series of fire-fighting related tasks to finish fourth in the competition.
The tasks are said to be gruelling simulated real fire-fighting situations.
Ian Donard, Darco Donard, Aaron Bouvier, Darwin Bouvier, Eddie Boneleye, and Dorion Medal all competed on the team.
The teams strong showing received praise from Prince Albert Grand Council Chief Brian Hardlotte.
“This team has shown what it means to be Northern Strong,” said Hardlotte on the PAGC Facebook page. “Their effort, discipline, and determination reflect the professionalism and commitment of First Nations firefighters across Saskatchewan. They have made Black Lake, Treaty 8 Territory, and all of Northern Saskatchewan proud.”
