The Chief of the Saskatoon Police Service says three officers have been fired after a lengthy investigation into an off-duty house party.

Five officers were suspended in relation to the party, which happened nearly a year ago.

However, on Wednesday,Saskatoon Police Chief Cam McBride announced three of those officers have been fired, while two others will return to active duty.

Chief McBride says one of the officers was initially dismissed in March with two more being let go Wednesday morning.

The police chief held a press conference Wednesday afternoon where he wasn’t able to provide too many specific details on the matter, but put his confidence behind the investigation.

“The actions we’ve taken here today reflect our commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability, and demonstrate that no one is above the expectations of this organization or the trust placed in us by the community,” says Chief of Police Cam McBride. “The decision to dismiss a police officer is never made lightly, but is necessary when the conduct falls short of the standards our community expects and deserves.”

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team is currently investigating their own investigation into the situation.

McBride did indicate that one of the officers also plans to appeal his dismissal.

“We know that public trust is rooted in transparency, and we are committed to sharing the conclusion of the ongoing investigations and appeal processes when they are concluded.”
