A man from Red Pheasant Cree Nation has been convicted and sentenced for unlawful outfitting.

According to the province, Saskatchewan conservation officers were investigating a complaint of illegal hunting in the Wilkie area in October 2024.

When officers activated their lights for a compliance check on a vehicle they say the vehicle fled evading multiple conservation officers along with RCMP officers.

The occupant of the vehicle would later be arrested at a home on Red Pheasant Cree Nation.

As a result, Elliot Meechance pleaded guilty to driving while prohibited, failing to stop for a peace officers, and outfitting without a license.

He has been sentenced to 379 days in custody followed by 2 years of probation.

Meechance also faces a one-year driving prohibition and three-year hunting suspenstion.

In addition, an American resident, who the province says was unlawfully guided by Meechance was fined $1,400.
