The Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is investigating Prince Albert’s 4th homicide of 2025.
At approximately 8:50 a.m. on July 31, 2025, police were called to the 500 block of 39th Street West for a report of a suspicious person.
Further information stated someone had potentially located a deceased person.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and located a deceased male. Members of the Prince Albert Police Service Forensic Identification Section (FIS), Prince Albert RCMP FIS and Saskatchewan Coroners Service were also called and attended the scene.
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Lyle Ballantyne and the next of kin have been notified.
Police have arrested and charged a 56-year-old man with second degree murder in relation to the homicide of Lyle Ballantyne.
The accused will make his first court appearance on Tuesday August 5, 2025.
