The Metis Nation-Saskatchewan says they will begin taking legal action against people who make posts on social media they deem as defamation or slander.

The Provincial Metis Council released a statement Monday saying they will be issuing cease and desist letters on these types of posts.

The Metis Nation has been marred by inner turmoil in recent months following harassment claims from the CEO against two recently re-elected regional representatives.

These representatives have since been barred from serving in their roles and the nature of the harassment claims have never been released publicly.

The matter has prompted several social media posts criticizing the MN-S over the matter.

In the statement, the MN-S says many of these posts are false and derogatory taking specific issue with posts that claim the CEO is not Metis.

The MN-S says he is a registered MN-S citizen and any statement to the contrary is false and harmful and they say they will issue cease and desist letters for these types of posts.

The MN-S also says KPMG will release an audit of the MN-S registry conducted over the past year at the upcoming MNLA in September.

The statement says the PMC passed a motion to respond to what they called the “ongoing harassment” last week.

One of these cease and desist letters appeared online on Monday afternoon calling on the individual to remove any posts the MN-S deemed “false or derogatory.”  The letter also advised the individual they were not allowed to attend any PMC meetings or MNLA’s in-person.
