The Lac LA Ronge Indian band has a new band councillor for the community of Sucker River.
A by-election took place Tuesday for the position where Korrie Ratt was elected to represent the community.
The band says Ratt won with 69 votes, against challengers Mary Veuillot, who received 54 votes, and Larry McKenzie who had 30 votes.
The band announced the results of the by-election Wednesday morning with Chief Tammy Cook-Searson providing her congratulations to Ratt.
“On behalf of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, I want to congratulate Korrie Ratt on being elected as the new Band Councillor for Sucker River,” said Chief Cook-Searson. “This is an exciting time for the community, and I look forward to working with Councillor Ratt in serving our members.”
According to the band, 49 percent of eligible voters turned out to vote.
