The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency provided a norther wildfire update on Monday afternoon.

Officials say 8 communities in the north have been evacuated because of wildfires with a total of 2,800 evacuees.

14 local fire departments from across the province are helping in the efforts and over one hundred firefighters from New Brunswick are expected to arrive on Monday to help.

La Loche continues to be on a pre-evacuation alert as residents face poor air quality and concerns over the highway to the community.

Patients at the local health centre and long-term care residents were transported out of the northern village yesterday.

The SPSA says Highway 155 into the community is currently closed to the public, but essential services are being piloted through as fire threatens the roadway.

Meanwhile, the Buhl Fire in the Prince Albert National Park has grown in size in recent days, but officials say the fire has not moved closer to any townsite.

Many parts of the province saw significant rainfall over the weekend, however, officials say not enough rain fell in the areas with the largest wildfires to have any significant impact.
