From a RCMP media release on June 4, 2025, two suspects have been charged following a firearms incident that preceded a non-fatal officer-involved shooting on May 28, 2025, near Canwood, SK.

A search warrant was executed on the SUV the two suspects were located in. Officers located and seized a second firearm, a quantity of cocaine investigators determined to be consistent with drug trafficking, additional drug trafficking paraphernalia, and a conducted energy weapon. Investigation determined the license plate of the SUV had been reported as stolen from Alberta.

As a result of further investigation, 30-year-old Jasmine Head and 32-year-old Harold Cardinal, the driver of the SUV, are each charged with:

  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon, Section 92(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of restricted firearm with ammunition without authorization or license, Section 95, Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of weapon obtained by crime, Section 96, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code.

Additionally, Harold Cardinal is charged with:

  • one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
  • one count, mischief over $5,000, Section 430(3), Criminal Code;
  • one count, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, Section 320.13(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, assault on peace officer with a weapon, Section 270.01(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited firearm without license, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
  • four counts, fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5).

Jasmine Head and Harold Cardinal are scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 4, 2025.

Saskatchewan RCMP Prince Albert Provincial General Investigation Section (GIS) continues to investigate the firearms incident.

Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) continues to investigate the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting.
