On June 22, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of a shooting on Waterhen Lake First Nation.
Investigation determined an altercation occurred between a group of individuals. A firearm was discharged, injuring an adult male. The adult male was treated in the hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.
As a result of continued investigation, 27-year-old Christopher Ernest from Waterhen Lake First Nation is charged with:
– one count, carry a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and
– one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code.
23-year-old Brandon McCallum from Canoe Lake Cree First Nation is charged with:
– one count, carry a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and
– one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code.
Warrants have been issued for their arrests and Meadow Lake RCMP are actively working to locate them.
Christopher Ernest is described as approximately 6’ tall and 165 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. A photo of him is attached below,
Brandon McCallum is described as approximately 6’ tall and 220 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of writing and a feather on his left hand, as well as a skull and a knife on his left arm. A photo of him is attached below
