The Saskatchewan Health Authority says they have completed a safe evacuation of patients from La Ronge.

The SHA says 53 acute patients from the La Ronge Health Centre and care homes in the community were safely evacuated.

Patients were transported to other health facilities across the province.

In the meantime, the health authority says the health centre in La Ronge, including the emergency department, is now closed.

While 911 access is expected to be intermittent, emergency services will remain available at the La Ronge EMS base.

The SHA also says a handful of doctors and nurses are remaining in the community to help with any health emergencies that may arise at the EMS base.
