More people have been told to leave their homes because of fires in northern Saskatchewan.

Sturgeon Landing which is part of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation has been evacuated.

The Northern Hamlet of Timber Bay issued an evacuation alert Sunday morning.

The community is on the east shore of Montreal Lake.

Montreal Lake Cree Nation has also declared a pre-evacuation notice for people in Molanosa.

Officials in Flin Flon and Creighton reported no structure fires in either community as of Sunday morning.

The Town of Creighton issued a statement saying no structural losses have been reported in the community and that a fire was contained near the Hanson Lake Road.

Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach have been under mandatory evacuation orders since Wednesday.

A total of around 8,000 people have had to leave their homes.

As more dry weather is in the forecast, that number is expected to grow.

MN-S calls state of emergency

As the fire situation doesn’t appear to be improving, the Metis Nation Saskatchewan also declared a State of Emergency.

MN-S President Glen McCallum is calling for a compassionate response to support displaced citizens with culturally grounded services and comforts.

The MN-S is deploying response teams and working with provincial and federal officials.

It is also calling on Metis citizens to avoid activities that could spark new fires or hinder firefighting efforts.

In the meantime, about 17-thousand people in Manitoba have had to leave their communities.

Military planes have been brought in to help the evacuation in that province.
